SERTY News Bulletin 3/2018

New WEEE classification and the recycling fee for B2B into force

Due to EU’s updated WEEE Directive (Open Scope) and Finnish legislation, the equipment classification has been reduced to six categories. The same type of equipment can now belong to different categories: the dimensions of the equipment or the surface area of the screen determine the category. Starting from 1 January 2019, SERTY’s members must report the recycling fees in accordance with the new classification.

At the same time, corporate products (B2B) will become subject to a fee, even though they continue to be reported separately. The maximum recycling fees will cease to exist, as, in future, the recycling fees of equipment will be based on the weight of the equipment. Lamps and fire alarms do, however, remain an exception.

We have sent a bulletin on the changes and the new price list to all contact persons on 6 September and more detailed instructions to the persons responsible for recycling fee reporting on 10 October.

Autumn meeting

SERTY’s statutory autumn meet-ing will be held on Monday 26 November 2018 at 9.30am on the SERTY office premises at Pasilankatu 2, Helsinki.

The notice of meeting and provisional has been sent to the all contact persons of member companies. The agenda of the meeting includes, e.g., the election of board members and the budget for next year. The documents concerning the meeting will be available on the member pages. You can log at www.serty.fi by entering the username member@serty.fi and password serty2001 at the top right-hand corner of the page.

Inform us of your attendance by sending e-mail to office [at] serty.fi. Delegates must have a power of attorney from the company they represent. Welcome!

Producer responsibility is mandatory

SERTY’s office keeps receiving reports on so-called freeloaders. We are obligated to report these cases to the supervisory authority monitoring producer responsibility. The WEEE producer responsibility concerns all importers or manufacturers (incl. online stores) that put battery, mains power, or solar energy-operated
equipment on the market.

We hope that the member companies which sell products provided by other companies in the field would check the validity of their collaboration partners’ producer responsibility. In cases of doubt, enquiries can be addressed to our office at office [at] serty.fi.
